I write stuff!

Yes I do.

Recently, I had the opportunity of meeting some members of the Kenya Writers’ Guild at their spacious room on the 9th floor of the I & M building in downtown Nairobi. I had been invited by its chairman, Gabriel Odinga, to talk about my life, my writing career, and especially the upcoming launch of my latest book, The Wretched Africans, which was to take place a week later, on April 7, 2016.

The membership – comprising mostly young upcoming writers, poets and university students, about fourty of them – was enthusiastic, engaging and very much interested in advancing their careers in writing. They asked many questions about inspiration, perseverance, publishing, marketing and promotion. I tried as much as I could to answer them.

One thing about writing, I told them is that, to successfully complete a manuscript a writer must be disciplined and focused. He or she must maintain a schedule for writing, must be dedicated to their project and must be disciplined because writing is an arduous task. No shortcut.

For me I write what I like and that makes it easy.
